If you’re new to the roofing industry, or simply want to learn better lifting techniques to lessen the strain on your back, Roofing Insights has the video just for you!
Dmitry recently caught up with a certified CrossFit coach to discuss and exemplify how to properly lift a set of shingles.
Learning how to safely lift a package of shingles is fairly straightforward.
Here are 3 steps:
- Stand over the package, feet shoulder-length apart. The key here though is to make sure you’re standing in the MIDDLE of the package. Standing in the back or trying to grab on the sides will not allow you to get a sturdy and safe grip of the package.
- When you bend over, make sure your knees are bent and your back is in a comfortable, athletic position. The photo below best shows what this position looks like:
- Grab the package at opposite sides and then lift with your legs and NOT your back. Lifting with the back is what causes soreness and injury to the lumbar/lower back.
Make sure you watch the full video for other stretching techniques that will keep you out of the chiropractor’s office and working safely and efficiently on roofs.
