Who Makes the Best Shingle #4: Price Matters

The asphalt shingles on the market are locked in a price war with eachother-cutting one another to gain a higher chunk of the market share and boost their perceived value to the consumers. Their roofing marketing tactics are second to none. These seven shingle brands are under review; Pabco’s Premier, Tamko’s Heritage, Iko’s Cambridge True, Atlas’ Pinnacle Pristine, Owens Corning’s Duration, Malarkey’s Vista, and CertainTeed Landmark. Though some of the manufacturers reduced the price by a dollar or two, not only to maximize profit, it is mainly to make consumers perceive them as having lower prices relative to competitors. Before choosing any of these brands, make sure you have the roofing tools to get the job done and avoid a bad roofing job.

In his on-going quest to reveal “Who Makes the Best Shingle”, Roofing Insight’s Dmitry Lipinskiy did market-price research on the seven manufacturers to fish out any roofing scams. Though the prices land near each other, Dmitry revealed the best price in the shingle market as Pabco’s Premier which is $79.09 per square. Tamko’s Heritage and Cambridge True are second best at $83.94 per square. Others following in order are: Atlas’ Pinnacle Pristine – $86.87, Owens Corning’s Duration – $89.85, Malarkey’s Vista – $89.96 and the last, CertainTeed’s Landmark – $90.00.

To exceed them all, one could perform differently from what’s on the market. The rate can still be higher, yet they’d control the top of the market share.

-The Owens Corning’s Duration claimed 260Ibs  while the actual weight is 188.4Ibs (62.8 per bundle x 3).

    -Tamko’s Heritage claimed 260Ibs but weighs 220.5Ibs (73.5 x 3).

-Malarkey’ Vista claimed 245Ibs while the actual weight is 224Ibs (56 x 4).

-Cambridge True estimated 230Ibs, and the actual weight is 228.6, comes very close to the claim.

-CertainTeed’s Landmark gave a smart range from 229Ibs to 240Ibs, and the actual weight is 233.1 lower than the claim. In business, it is a thing of integrity when you promise less and do more. CertainTeed made a great impression, showing they control the process and what goes into it as well as the weight.

-Interestingly too, Atlas’ Pinnacle Pristine claimed 225Ibs, but it is a little more, 239.1Ibs. Besides, the Pinnacle Pristine is brighter and sturdier.

-However, the biggest surprise is Pabco’s Premier. Pabco claimed  290Ibs, but actual weighs 244.4Ibs. However, the heaviest does not mean it performs the best. The essence of the evaluation surrounds the integrity of the manufacturers, and their price can be covered with roof financing.
