The year 2020 has been tumultuous, to say the least
Still, for those in the roofing industry, there are plenty of reasons to be thankful, namely that back in March when COVID-19 first swept across the American landscape, the roofing industry was considered essential and allowed to conduct business as usual.
Therefore, despite the persistent threat of another economic shutdown, or the controversial presidential election, those in the industry are still encouraged to keep their heads up and be grateful for all this year has offered.
One man pushing this narrative is Roofing Insights CEO Dmitry Lipinskiy.
As the owner of Storm Group Roofing in Minneapolis, Lipinskiy benefitted from the uptick in homeowners looking to do work on their homes in 2020.
It helped his business immensely, and for that, he wants others in similar positions to recognize their good fortune.
“I want to challenge you to be thankful for this industry and what it does for people,”
Lipinskiy says.
“We have it better than most people, and if you’re complaining today, or if you’re not thankful, I encourage you to see the good that’s all around you.”
Specifically, there are 5 reasons for roofers to be thankful in 2020.
According to Lipinskiy, they are:
1. Job security
With so many people losing their jobs in 2020, it should be noted once more how lucky the roofing industry has been to be able to continue to operate.
Had local governments not deemed the construction industry essential, or even if they imposed restrictions, many business owners like Lipinskiy would have suffered.
Instead, the decision not to impose new regulations helped business owners in the roofing industry.
Consequently, this is why Lipinskiy is pushing forward with his 2020 Roofing Process Conference in Orlando, Florida.
For Lipinskiy, he sees it not only as a way for roofers to get better, but also a way in which people can support industries who were not as lucky as the roofing industry.
“We need to do business. We need to work. We’re doing the conference not only for ourselves, but we are doing it because we want to support Orlando and the hotel industry, which lost $300 million in the first two months of the pandemic,”
explains Lipinskiy.
2. Insurance claims
Yes, insurance companies can be ruthless, but they’re also the leading consumers for new roofs.
Ergo, for as many headaches as the giant entities like State Farm and Allstate cause, they also deserve credit for paying out millions of dollars in claims every year.
“You might hate Allstate and State Farm, but they’re the ones writing us checks,”
says Lipinskiy.
3. Opportunities
Only a few other industries experienced labor shortages this year, and as a result, 2020 meant there was never a better time to be in the roofing industry.
The financial opportunities were plentiful, and the hope is that this momentum carries over into next year, which will only mean good things for those who are involved in the roofing business.
As a first-generation immigrant from Russia, Lipinskiy is particularly appreciative, citing the fact that in his country, and in many others around the world, the chance to make good money is simply not there, especially in 2020.
“Be thankful for opportunities. Don’t take them for granted,”
Lipinskiy urges.
4. Land of opportunities
Piggybacking off number four, there has never been a better time to start a roofing business.
Prospective owners can become certified from the comforts of their home, so long as they’re willing to put in the work and become licensed.
“Today, you can get a degree that will change your life, right from your phone,”
says Lipinskiy.
“You can learn a new trade this way, and it’s awesome.”

5. Education
Knowledge is power, and while knowledge can also lead to internal strife, that doesn’t mean that as Americans we cannot be thankful for all this year has taught us.
At Roofing Insights, the key word all year has been consistency.
By being focused and determined to get better every day, Roofing Insights has grown substantially throughout the year, namely in the development of Directorii.
Directorii is a platform that connects homeowners and contractors all across North America.
But unlike corporations like Angie’s List or HomeAdvisor, Directorii is willing to back up every contractor on their platform with a $20,000 guarantee.
This means that as a homeowner, you will never have to worry about hiring a contractor through Directorii because in the event of a major problem, you will be 100% covered.
For a further explanation of Directorii, please see the terms and conditions page.
