An incredible display of heroism took place today at Roofing Insights.
CEO Dmitry Lipinskiy finally revealed the story behind his conflict with major shingle manufacturer GAF.
It was an unexpected move from Lipinskiy, one that will almost certainly result in another lawsuit against him and his company.
Both this post and his recent YouTube video will also likely be removed, as it is also expected that GAF will throw the kitchen sink at Lipinskiy in order to stop word of his experience from spreading.
People with money can run over you like a tank,
Lipinskiy told his followers, most of whom turned out to watch as he detailed years of past events on a Facebook live event.
But to Lipinskiy, it’s all worth it, especially if his truth can reach audiences all over the country.
People need to hear this message,
Lipinskiy said, then revealing that back in 2014, he was actually a GAF-certified installer, something his contingent of subscribers were shocked to hear.
It was during that year that Lipinskiy unknowingly signed a contract with GAF stipulating that he wouldn’t review their products on any social media platforms.
Then, as Lipinskiy moved forward with his YouTube channel, he did ultimately review GAF products, as well as post links to class-action lawsuits the company was involved with.
It wasn’t long before Lipinskiy was met with a swarm of cease-and-desist letters from GAF that morphed into a lawsuit of its own.
It’s not disparaging if it’s true,
Lipinskiy recalls telling GAF, but they were undeterred in their attempt to prosecute because they knew they had the manpower and finances to make Lipinskiy’s accusations disappear.
Knowing that he lacked the resources to fight GAF, Lipinskiy agreed to pay the company $15,000 for a settlement fee, a number that nearly cost him his business. Included in that agreement was a clause stating that Lipinskiy also wouldn’t review future GAF products.
In the following years, Lipinskiy didn’t review GAF shingles on his YouTube channel, but he did make mention to their company. Even those slight references were met with cease-and-desists from lawyers at GAF, a fact that bothered Lipinskiy because even if he said nice things about GAF, he was still being harassed.
During this time, Lipinskiy also received a personal visit from the vice president of GAF, who had claimed to want to smooth things over, but in turn created even more problems for Lipinskiy.
Yet, GAF’s vice president did not leave Minnesota before sharing a sentiment that might forever damage the massive entity’s reputation.
I know our products are not the best, but we’re the biggest company,
said the vice president.
And now, as GAF has continued to harass him, Lipinskiy decided he had enough.
I’m a consumer advocate. I do what’s best for the public,
I’ve been shushed for three years. My legal fees are $6,000 per month. I’m not a liar and I have nothing to hide,
he also said, at one point in his discourse becoming emotional over the long journey it’s been ever since that fateful day he signed a contract with GAF.
Lipinskiy remained committed to the fact that his purpose in all this is to help GAF produce a better product. As a man of integrity and honor, he simply asks for the same characteristics to be exhibited by GAF.
If you claim to be a leader, be a leader,
he says, ending his video by telling GAF that he is open to holding a public interview so that GAF has the chance to tell their side of the story.
